Aside from the Fourth of July and apple pie, few things are as American as enjoying a cold one with your best buddy. Since your dog is arguably the best friend you could ever have, why shouldn't they be able to join the party? They should, and these dog-friendly breweries agree.

There are pet-friendly breweries and restaurants all over the United States, but we selected the top-rated breweries in the largest cities in the U.S. Some have a designated dog-friendly area, while others allow dogs to join their humans right at the table.

15. Transmitter Brewing

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Bottom line: Since 2014, Transmitter Brewing has been serving up signature Saisons and Farmhouse ales to the New York beer scene. They have a wide variety of beers, and they don't go IPA crazy like most breweries have lately. The space is open and unassuming, and it's welcoming to people and pups alike.

14. Boomtown Brewery

Location: Los Angeles, California

Bottom line: In the heart of the downtown Los Angeles Arts District is a hidden gem: Boomtown Brewery. They have more than 18 beers on tap, and that's only the beginning of the fun.

The walls are adorned with colorful murals by local artists, and the huge venue knows a thing or two about ambience. It's a great place to hang out, with pool tables, ping pong, board games and more, all for just a buck.

And yes, it's dog friendly.

13. Begyle Brewing

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Bottom line: Tucked away in the Ravenswood Industrial Corridor is a small brewery with big fans — including some four-legged ones. They no longer allow dogs inside their taproom, but dogs are still welcome on their patio (weather permitting). You can test beers, and buy some to go in growlers, cans, bottles or kegs. The tasting trays are nicely presented, and you can grab a bite at the food truck outside while you're there.

12. Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Location: Houston, Texas

Bottom line: Saint Arnold Brewing Company has a big claim to fame. It's the oldest craft brewery in all of Texas. They shipped out their first keg in 1994, filling a gap in the microbrewery market in Houston.

The place is run by two lifelong beer fanatics who started crafting their own brews in their garages. They've developed tons of recipes since then, including a revival of old, traditional cask ales.

Pups of all sizes are allowed, and there's plenty of beers and ciders to pick from. The food isn't five-star dining, but it's tasty and reasonably priced.

11. Yards Brewing Company

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Bottom line: Yards Brewing Company is big enough to host holiday parties, weddings and fundraisers, but cozy enough to welcome passersby with their pets.

This dog-friendly brewery has a full menu with great food, including mouthwatering pork belly kabobs and fried chicken sandwiches with just the right amount of crunch.

Most days of the week, you can build your own tasting flight, too. Dogs are allowed in their patio area, which makes the entire package almost too good.

Living nearby means we're often walking our dogs past the brewery, and having dog-friendly outdoor seating means that it's too easy to just drop in on a whim for some drinks and snacks. 10. Arizona Wilderness DTPHX

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Bottom line: Phoenix has fun nightlife vibes as it is, but Arizona Wilderness DTPHX takes it to the next level. Sure, the name is unconventional, but don't be deceived. There are so many styles of beer to choose from, including unconventional brews to surprise your palate.

Bring your dog to the massive outdoor patio area that offers plenty of shade and cozy string lights. This dog-friendly brewery is especially cool because of its one-of-a-kind vegan menu.

Most breweries stick with typical bar food, so having vegan and vegetarian-friendly options is a big plus.

9. Weathered Souls Brewing

Location: San Antonio, Texas

Bottom line: Weathered Souls opened in 2016, and new beers are released every single week. Five beers are served year-round, plus cider, wine and good eats.

It's very much a San Antonio community hangout spot. The owners want everyone to feel welcome, dogs included, and visitors feel that the minute they walk in.

Eat a sinfully tasty order of deviled eggs, or a melt-in-your mouth cheeseburger with all the fixings. They also have Jenga and other games to play while you're chillin'.

8. AleSmith Brewing Company

Location: San Diego, California

Bottom line: Since 1995, San Diego locals have adored this dog-friendly brewery's phenomenal draft menu and tasting room. Food trucks are available on-site, and there's plenty of seating inside and out.

Whether you're into stouts or IPAs, it's not hard to find something you'll like. Play a round of cornhole out back before you leave.

7. Lakewood Brewing Company

Location: Dallas, Texas

Bottom line: Wim Bens was born in Belgium, but raised in Texas. He missed the types of quality ales and lagers that were popular in Belgium, so he decided to make them himself.

It took five years of experimenting, but he honed his recipes until they were perfect. Lakewood Brewing Company's Peanut Butter Temptress is a treat, and it only gets more creative from there.

The inside space is comfortable and inviting, but the outdoor lounge area is ideal for catching up with friends and unwinding.

6. Hapa's Brewing Company

Location: San Jose, California

Bottom line: If you haven't tried the tasting flights at Hapa's Brewing Company, you're missing out. Hapa's boasts some of the best craft beer in the area, and their taproom and outdoor patio welcome one and all — kids and dogs included.

They usually have a food truck available outside, but getting to try different brews is the really fun part. Try beers with enticing names like "Galileo's Dream" and "Uncut Gems." They're worth the hype, trust us.

The only downside of the level of dog-friendliness here is that there are almost always several dogs around, so if yours isn't great with other dogs, it's better to leave them at home or proceed with caution.

5. Austin Beerworks

Location: Austin, Texas

Bottom line: Established in 2011, Austin Beerworks has something for everyone. Their brew hall is welcoming and community-centered, and their selection of craft beers is excellent.

Try golden grahams cream ale that legitimately tastes like graham crackers, without being obnoxiously sweet. Grab an order of hot wings with habanero sauce if you're feeling brave or roasted Brussels sprouts if you'd prefer to balance out the beer with something healthier.

4. Veterans United Craft Brewery

Location: Jacksonville, Florida

Bottom line: A veteran-owned and operated craft brewery that welcomes dogs to the party? You don't have to tell us twice. We'll be there.

The founder and brewmaster, Ron Gamble, was a Naval Flight Officer in the first Gulf War. After he turned his passion for homebrewing into a thriving business (with years of training and management experience, we might add), he makes a point of hiring mostly veterans.

In addition to serving up amazing brews, he strives to raise awareness and appreciation of our service members and veterans. He's achieved his mission, for sure. Veterans United is one of the most popular Jacksonville breweries, with vintage military posters, 22 brews on draft, wine, hot meals and snacks galore.

3. Barebottle Brewing Company

Location: San Francisco, California

Bottom line: Barebottle Brewing Company regularly offers 20 or more types of beer, from lighter beers to fruited sours, IPAs and boozy stouts. The rich, high ABV, chocolatey stouts around the holidays are divine, and their tasting flights are generous.

Grab some quality BBQ outside, or bring in a nosh of your own. It's an ideal casual meetup spot with friendly, quick service and options galore.

2. Sun King Brewing

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Bottom line: Sun King Brewing's staple is the Sunlight Cream Ale, but it's hard to go wrong here. Fill a growler with one of their house beers for only $5.

Sun King is the first full-scale brewery in Indy since the '40s. They distribute kegs and cans to eateries throughout the region, and their tasting room offers pints and sampling flights. Visit on a trivia night if that's your thing, or bring the whole family for some Friday night fun.

It's a very kid and dog-friendly environment, but their beer is where they really shine. They have around 30 revolving flavors, including a Carmel popcorn beer they produced for the Indiana state fair. Reportedly, the nachos are out of this world as well.

1. Land-Grant Brewing Company

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Bottom line: A one-of-a-kind, dog-friendly brewery, Land-Grant Brewing Company offers 3,000 square feet of space to gather, hang with your friends, try new beers, or watch the game. There are tons of communal tables and a large outdoor area to enjoy.

In summer, there's live music. In winter, they even set up heated igloos you can rent.

What Yelpers have to say: "I'm not a beer person, but I love the atmosphere at Land Grant! They have a plethora of outdoor seating and are dog-friendly too. I love the big screen outside for trivia nights or to watch a sports game. Parking can be tough though, since it's limited street parking. They have plenty of beer options and one of our favorites is the Lemon Glow. I usually do their cocktail options since I don't drink beer. The beers vary from $6-$10, give or take.
