    What’s in a Name?

Male cows are known as bulls or steers. Females are called heifers. After giving birth, they become cows.
     A Cow’s Diet

Cows can eat meat, but it is not common. They are herbivores and eat grains and plants.
If you see a marketing label that says “vegetarian fed” on beef, that means the cow wasn’t fed any animal products. They are mostly all vegetarian.
     An (Almost) 360 View

Cows can see almost all around them, which lets them watch for predators from all angles.
However, they can’t see well directly in front of them, so they will likely turn their head to look at you.

    The Nose Knows

A cow has a far more acute sense of smell than we do. In fact, they can detect odor up to six miles from where they stand.
     A Happy Herd

Cows are social creatures. They do not like to be alone.
The only times they isolate themselves are when they are sick or about to give birth.
     Rest and Relaxation

Cows spend approximately 10 hours a day laying down. That’s just a little more than we do.
They stand up and lay down about 14 times a day.

    Bovine Adornments

Those ear tags you see on cows tell a story. They ID the animal and keep track of information such as age, birth date, gender and weight.
      Natural Insulation

In colder months, a cow’s skin and hair are natural insulators protecting them from the cold. The fluffier the fur, the better (although, short-haired cows do pretty well in winter, too.)
     Big Farm Puppies

Cows are big, but that means there’s more to love. Their average size across all breeds is about 1,390 pounds.
